Music in his blood, technology in his head, and team spirit in his heart
Simon loves it when many threads come together, whether in the office or in discussions with suppliers. In his role as system engineer at LTW, he drives projects forward that bring together creative ideas and technical solutions. Sometimes, a single conversation can determine the right path to take.
The conversation that started it all
Sometimes the best stories arise by chance. For Simon, it all started at a Chancenland Vorarlberg event. There he met Andreas Lederer, who now works as CTO at LTW. Two years later, Simon wrote his Master's thesis at LTW. Now, aged 27, he is a systems engineer and part of the product management team. 'While writing my master's thesis, I quickly realized that the mentality at LTW suited me. The open-mindedness, the trust, and the opportunity to take on responsibility - that was exactly what I was looking for.' He studied at HTL Bregenz and went on to complete a degree in industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology. He always knew that he wanted to understand how things work. ‘I'm someone who questions things. When I walk past a machine, I immediately think about how it's constructed and what drives it.’
Between robot arms and new ideas
Today, Simon is in demand wherever standard solutions reach their limits. He is responsible for special purchases, such as robotic arms, gantry systems and components that perform specific tasks in projects. At the same time, he supervises development projects in product management. ‘I am in frequent contact with suppliers, project management and our specialist departments. Coordinating and bringing together different perspectives comes naturally to me.’ Simon finds moments when the team is tinkering particularly exciting. 'When we sit down in meetings and think about how we can solve a technical problem, sometimes by thinking completely “outside the box”, that's right up my street. That's when the technician in me really comes through.’
With technology and tact
Those who know Simon better know that music has been a part of his life for almost as long as he can remember. He has been playing the piano, keyboard and guitar for over 20 years, and regularly performs on stage with various bands. 'I think music and technology have a lot in common. In both areas, it's about many individual parts working together perfectly.' This sense of rhythm is also evident in his work: creating structures, harmonizing processes and connecting people is his everyday life. Just like in music, the right timing is also important in his job. Outside of work, Simon is passionate about his home region and community. He has been a student representative at the Vorarlberg Association in Vienna for seven years, helping to organize the Vorarlberg Ball for the last two of those. He is also an ambassador for Chancenland Vorarlberg. ‘I just enjoy bringing people together, whether professionally or privately.’
An employer with trust and vision
Simon particularly appreciates the way people interact with each other at LTW. ‘People are what count here. Everyone is on first-name terms, treats each other with respect and supports one another.’ The flexibility of his day-to-day work is also a major advantage for him. ‘Working from home, flexitime and independent working are not special arrangements here, but part of everyday life. This trust motivates me enormously.’
Looking ahead
Simon has not been in his role as a systems engineer for long, having joined the team in September 2024. However, his goals are clear: ‘I want to gain a lot of experience and also develop strategically in the long term.’ An exciting new project is already on the horizon. ‘Product development projects in particular appeal to me because you can help shape something from the ground up and see how an idea gradually turns into a real product.’
'Here, you're not just a number.'
Simon has a clear message for future colleagues: 'If you're looking for a modern employer with a collegial atmosphere where you're valued as an individual, not just a number, then this is the right place for you. LTW offers opportunities for professional, personal and creative development.’
